turning tools

In wood turning, you have two types of turning tools to choose from: traditional turning tools and carbide-insert turning tools.

Traditional wood turning tools are made from high speed steel (HSS) and require regular sharpening. Common types of traditional turning tools include gouges, skew chisels, parting tools and specialty tools.

Carbide-insert turning tools are available in a range of sizes for various scales and cutting profiles. Popular cutting profiles include round for roughing stock, square for roughing stock and smoothing tenons, square radius for a smooth finishing cut and diamond for cutting grooves, beads and decorative details. Carbide turning tools do not require sharpening as you turn the cutter to expose fresh edges and then replace the carbide cutter when all edges become dull.

The WNT turning inserts range can be relied on, especially with the Dragonskin coated grades, where each insert is a specialist in its field. Whether machining steel, stainless steel, high temperature alloy or cast iron, the WNT Dragonskin grades enable you to consistently achieve the longest service life every time. The highest stability and process security are also guaranteed by the use of WNT XpressClamp and IsoClamp toolholders.

With WNT grooving tools, everything is under control – even difficult plunging applications with tough to control chips or high temperature development. For parting, grooving and groove turning as well as the production of circlip grooves the double ended grooving system GX with highest flexibility is available. For the highest requirements when parting off, grooving and turning the SX system was developed: designed using finite element modeling, it combines high stability with optimum distribution of forces.
